Dutchess County resident Rakim Paulin, age 43, of Beacon, pleaded on Thursday, Nov. 14, according to the Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi.

"The defendant's involvement in both a violent assault and the illegal drug trade shows a clear disregard for the law and the lives of others, Parisi said.

The assault incident occurred on Tuesday, August 20, at Pershing Avenue and Maple Street in the City of Poughkeepsie, the DA's Office said.

According to the City of Poughkeepsie Police at the time, Paulin attempted to intentionally cause serious physical injury to another person by striking them with his vehicle at 46 miles per hour. The impact sent the victim into the air, and he landed on the hood of the car.

Paulin then got out of his vehicle and repeatedly hit the victim while they were on the ground, police said.

The narcotics incident occurred in July at the Mobile Gas Station at 349 Route 82 in the Town of Wappinger.

During that incident, Paulin admitted to possessing drugs, including fentanyl, during an ongoing investigation into drug sales in the region, the Dutchess County Drug Task Force said at the time.

Paulin is scheduled to be sentenced in January 2025.
